Sharia Law

 Sharia Law

Updated 9/3/14

A popular email uses lies and the fear of Muslims and sharia law to try to scare people into not "getting rid of Christianity from all public sites and erasing God from the lives of children":

  • Contrary to what this email states, the Muslim population is not going to increase enough to elect the heads of the U.S. Government.  In the next 20 years, the U.S. Muslim population is only expected to rise from less than 1% of the U.S. population to about 1.7%.
  • Dearborn, Michigan has not enacted sharia law.
  • The email states that "our sisters and daughters attending American, Canadian and British Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the shariah law."  Muslims cannot possibly enact sharia law in the U.S. because (unlike most countries) we are protected by the First Amendment's separation of church and state.

Ironically, because many Republicans want Christianity in public buildings and schools; they want to get rid of the separation of church and state — the very thing that protects the U.S. from sharia law:

  • The First Amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion.
  • The U.S. Constitution and federal law are the Supreme Law of the Land, preempting conflicting state and territorial laws.

But, we will no longer be protected by the separation of church and state if the Tea Party takes control of our government.

  • Tea Party candidate Glen Urquhart felt so strongly about it that said,  “The exact phrase ’separation of Church and State’ came out of Adolph Hitler’s mouth, that’s where it comes from. So the next time your liberal friends talk about the separation of Church and State ask them why they’re Nazis.”  (He lost.)
  • Pastor David Barton is not only against the separation of church and state, he thinks it’s okay for sharia law to be established in American Muslim communities. And Barton is not just any pastor - he was an adviser to Republicans like Representative Michele Bachmann, and 2012 Presidential hopefuls Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich.
