Herman Cain's 9-9-9 Plan Decoded
Herman Cain, a former Republican candidate for president, proposed a "9-9-9" tax plan that would replace the current tax code with a 9% income tax, 9% corporate tax and 9% sales tax.
Cain claimed, "it'll save all of us collectively $430 billion a year that we spend to fill out the stupid tax code."
But it would have actually raised taxes on the middle class and poor, while cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans from about 18% to 9%.
According to the Washington Post, a family of four making $50,000 would pay about $1,000 more in income tax plus about $3,000 more in sales tax.
