Republican Priority

Republican Priority

Mitch McConnell, Senate minority leader, has repeatedly said that the Republican priority is to defeat Obama in 2012:

  • "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term President."
  • "Our top priority over the next two years should be deny President Obama a second term."
  • When criticized for this statement, he responded with, "What can Americans expect from Republicans now?...Some of had said it was indelicate of me to suggest that our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term.  But...if our primary legislative goals are...the only way to do all of those things is to put something in the White House who won't veto any of these things."

Not jobs or the economy - defeat Obama.  And the easiest way to do that is to have the Republican Congress filibuster every bill the President tries to pass to help help the economy or the American people.

Fed up with trying to get any cooperation from the Republicans, President Obama enacted Executive Orders to help 1.6 million students repay their loans, 1 million homeowners meet their mortgage payments, and 8,000 veterans find jobs.
